How has my life changed since the birth of my first child?  For what seems like a pretty straightforward question I can not seem to put this answer into words.

Sure, I can think of many little ways that my life has changed: I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have slept through the night in the last month; I sing nursery rhymes when performing any activity; I do a lot more laundry; Did I mention I sleep less?

But personally how has the miraculous addition to my family changed my life? To me, it’s in explainable.

The warm tingly feeling that comes over you when those little eyes gaze into yours with such love and dependence is in explainable.

The realization that you need to take good care of yourself only to ensure your ability to care for your family is in explainable.

Being truly irreplaceable and indispensable to another human being is in explainable.

When asking what giving birth was like my Mother always responded “It’s in explainable and different for everyone… you’ll just have to wait for your own experience.”  Well until my Son was born this seemed to be an unacceptable answer.

There are a lot of “in explainable” experiences in the journey to and through motherhood.  Although my journey has only just begun I can see that it will certainly be one of, if not the most, rewarding experiences of my life.
