RE:GBS positive? I was GBS positive as well… it’s not a big deal, thye just give you some IV antibiotics when you are in labor.  I’m not really sure what it is but it was no big deal!

RE:GBS positive? GBS is a bacteria that you can be a carrier of.  It stands for group B streptococci which can cause some serious complications… Babycenter has some info on it here: http://www.babycenter.com/0_group-b-streptococcus-screening_1647.bc  My sister was gbs positive and it wasn’t really a big deal during labor w/ the medication but if the baby does get it it can be bad.  Sorry don’t mean to sound scary, the chances are very slim!

RE:GBS positive? I too hear it sin't a big deal when they find out before you are in labor that you are positive. They just monitor you and give you antibiodics. My sister in law somehow had it develop after she had been tested and her poor baby caught it as she was born and ended up a very sick baby in the hospital for ten days. Both ended up just fine, but better to avoid the situation all together I think.

RE:GBS positive? my doc gave me a paper on the GBS well the paper says it may not cause problems in adults. You can be positive one week and negative the next. It can only be passed through vag delivery when the mother is treated during labor and delivery baby almost never becomes infected.  but the possible effects on baby are GBS can infect the blood. It can also cause inflamation on babys lungs, brain,or spinal cord. Long term effects can include blindness, deafness, mental retardation, or cerebral palsy. And in rare cases, infection causes death. Infection is most often detected soon after baby is born. Sounds scary but you and your baby will be perfectly ok the will just give you an iv. Good luck and congrats to you and many blessing upon you and your family!
