5 Ways to burn Calories the way you did when you were young

Are you still looking for creative ways to sneak more cardio into your day? All you need to do is think like a kid again.   Do you remember all those things that you used to do for fun at the playground, on the black top at recess or in the back yard? They are good options for fun and fitness as an adult.

Here are some examples of how you can act like a kid again to get yourself in shape:

1) Jump Rope-It used to be so easy when we were jumping rope as children at the playground, and it is still a great way to burn calories as an adult.  According to the National Institutes of Health, jumping rope burns approximately 750 calories per hour.  That is more than any other exercise except running.   Jump ropes are small and light weight so you can easily pack them in your suitcase when you travel for business or pleasure.

2) Jumping Jacks-You can burn up to 100 calories in 10 minutes by doing jumping jacks.  Of course, you can break this up into smaller intervals.

3) Roller skating or roller blading-This is easier on your joints than running and will burn more calories than walking.

4) Run or jog-Have you ever noticed that children run all the time?  Skipping is good also.

5) Play kickball or other organized sports-Kickball was a popular game in elementary school and is still fun as an adult.  There are adult kickball leagues in the DC area that you can join. If  kickball isn't your thing, there are plenty of organized teams that you can join. The DC area has several flag football, basketball, soccer and softball teams that welcome newcomers.  CAN, the Captial Alumni Network, organizes teams according to the college or university that you attended.
